Frequently Asked Questions

Please refer to this list of common questions regarding clases, subjects, and other topics. Here are some of the most common questions we've been asked as well as some useful tips.

Some of your Questions:

Q. How long is a typical session?

Every tutoring session includes fifty minutes of instruction and practice and a ten minute break. Most courses consist of two consecutive sessions.

Q. What if I have a conflict and can't make it to a session?

If you are aware of the conflict prior to registration, please let the JEC Administrators know in advance. Either the class will be rescheduled or your tuition will be prorated.

If something comes up unexpectedly and you need to miss an English class, we will provide you with the materials covered during the missed class so you can stay on schedule with the course.

If something comes up unexpectedly and you need to miss a math personal tutoring session, please call the office. If there is a spot available in another math personal tutoring class, you may attend that class at no additional charge.

If you need to miss a private tutoring session, please give twenty-four hours notice so that your tutor can also be notified; if possible, the session will be rescheduled for another time.

Q. What if I am displeased with my tutor or other students in my class?

We understand that not all students respond to the same teaching styles and that some students are more productive when working with a particular group of peers. If a situation arises in which a different tutor or a different class is desirable, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate your needs.

Q. How much homework is given?

Nearly all courses at JEC give homework. Our main rule of thumb is one hour of homework per one hour session. However, the workload can be either decreased or increased depending on the client's request.

Q. What if I don't finish my homework?

Homework is a tool to help accelerate and strengthen a student's independent mastery of the subject matter; failure to complete a homework assignment slows a student's progress. If a student requires further understanding of the homework in order to complete it, then he or she may complete it in class with additional instruction from the tutor. Otherwise, it can be made up before the next session.

Q. How big are the classes?

Private sessions are one on one, and math personal tutoring classes have no more than four students. English class and Workshops have no more than eight students.

Q. How much does it cost?

Tuition is calculated based on the following:

  • Type of tutoring (private, personal, or workshop)
  • Length of the course or the number of tutoring sessions per week
  • Early registration or other promotional discounts
Please give us a call to find a program that meets your needs and fits your budget.

Q. How much improvement can I expect?

This depends on the duration of your time with us and your commitment to completing homework and other assignments. Many of our students raise their SAT scores several hundred points or progress several grade levels.
